Deola has been in the fashion business for some time now. If you are looking for couture and custom made pieces she is your go to person. From her laser cut komole as she calls it which has become the staple piece for almost every luxury wedding in Nigeria.
She uses rich, vibrant colours in her designs with simple, elegant and intricate details. The brand oozes luxury. One of my favourite pieces is from her Wings collection because of the use of adire with splash of colours which was incorporated in the textiles. Her instagram page consists of her intricate laser cut komole in vibrant hues if you are into details this page is for you.

3. Maki Oh
Maki oh speaks to my inner girly side her pieces are girly, quirky and what i love about her is she understands the use of Nigerian made textiles which is evident in all her pieces. Her instagram page consists of her collection along with her various international publications which shows the positive reception of the adire by the international communty which to me was long overdue. She sticks to the whole African aesthetics in terms of styling and also the models she uses. If you love girly feminine with a bit of edge style she is your girl.

4. Orange Culture
Now this is one brand i’m obsessed with, it is an androgynous brand that provides both male and female pieces. He is one of the few Nigerian designers i know who is able to have an eclectic vibe which makes his brand edgy, sexy with a laid back cool factor to it.
His pieces are the types you can wear for your day to day activities without breaking a sweat or complain about how uncomfortable you are, they can easily transit from day to night with a change of heels and a sexy belt viola it’s lounge time with the girls which shows the versatility of the brand. His instagram page is cool, edgy, colourful, male, female and oh so creative. If you love versatility no holds back fashion orange culture is for you.
These are some of the looks from the recent 2017 haute couture week starting with looks that stood out for me is the blue and red Zuhair Murrad gowns, his use of bold colours exudes a certain kind of confidence that’s hard to ignore I just love it. Secondly is Elie Saab from looking at the garments you can see the amount of hours spent on his pieces because the the details on them is everything.
Thirdly is Valentino the colour palate was on the minimal side but you can see the craftsmanship from some of the pieces that had pleats on them when viewed through the sheer fabrics it’s just amazing because it speaks to you. Fourth on the list is Ulyana Sergeenko a Russia designer whose work I love because it has a bit of that old school looks with fitted corsets. Fiftly is Armani Prive who focused on pants which was visible in the collection which had alot of intricate sequins work and the vibrant orange colours has a shade for everyone.
Next on the list is Giambatista Valli with a ball and a printed flower dress which exudes feminity. Lastly is Chanel who showcased a lot of power suits in pastel shades but my favourites is the silver sequins dress with feathers at the edges and the full skirt with a crop sequins jacket because they have a certain glam about them that I just love….
Which of these pieces best speaks to your style I will love to hear about it.
I love jackets and blazers but unfortunately we don’t have the weather for it here in Nigeria because it’s mostly warm or hot days and the cold doesn’t really call for the heavy pieces but during the harmattan and cool summer days this can be worn because it’s lighter than the usual jacket.
This is the Afro Chic jacket from my 2015 Collection where i showcased at Abuja Fashion Week, i styled it on the model with ripped jeans to give it that edgy look i love.
The second look i create was over our tribal print dress to show there is nothing like too much print if it’s done right.
The third look a friend of mine Zainab bought a pair and sent me a picture of how she styled it, I love how she did it because it further shows the versatility of the jacket from modest to vampy depending on how you feel.
So what do you guys think any wonderful styling tips i can try out will love to hear your suggestions.
Today it’s Simi’s turn, i actually heard the name loved it and decided to honor it with a lovely piece hence the birth of Simi.
Simi is a high waisted skirt with pockets and a high low hem which gives it that simple edgy look i love so much without trying so hard.
Someone commented on my last post about pairing trendy pieces for the office with a white crisp button down which i love so i decided to pair the Simi skirt and i loved the effect, what do you guys think any major suggestions?
Disclaimer only the skirt is mine.
C.H was one of the first designers i googled when i got into fashion, her style is feminine yet chic even with all the crazy trends around she always finds subtle ways to incorporate trends while still maintaining that elegant look. Her instagrampage usually contains pictures of her gowns & dresses, handbags and shoes which is a major part of the brand. If you love clean elegant looks this is the page for you.
2. ZAC POSEN
Zac Posen’s page is the ultimate fashion lovers guide, he posts pictures of his design studio, workers and what he is currently working on thus giving fans an idea of how he works. He also post pictures of things he finds inspiring and cooks from time to time. My favourite is the pictures of the lovely ladies rocking his signature gowns during fittings and the quirky pictures that comes with it.He loves nature and flowers as evident on his page.
Gucci is vibrant, Gucci is Italian, Gucci is prints and patterns alot of there pieces are quirky with bohemian vibes, along with a lot of patterned dresses and menswear. Gucci is the IT brand right now they showcased 97 pieces for there resort 2017 collection show, yea you heard right! If you are a lover of prints this is the page for you.
4. DOLCE ANDGABBANA
Is family, not just any family but Italian family, colours, bold patterns, embellishments, menswear, makeup for the beauty lovers and my favourite there Uber chic embellished sunglasses I just love them. This page is definitely not for the minimalist lover.
My love of Lanvin started with there shoes, they are edgy, colourful and oh so stylish the love built up to there clothes i love how they use vibrant colours in there designs. I fell in love with their former creative director Alber Elbaz he always gave bold jewel tones to there pieces which i loved.
Can you spot the designer who owns each piece?
Ps. Pictures gotten from designers instagram account.
The African Magic Viewers Award took place on the 5th of March 2016 at Eko hotel and suites VI, Lagos Nigeria . To be honest this is the first time i watched the red carpet and I’m glad i did.
There was a lot of fashionable looks at the red carpet and the ladies brought there A game, as with fashion there were so many hits and misses on the red carpet but i choose to dwell on the hits which brings us to some looks that stood out for me.
Mercy Aigbe she went all out with her look and her makeup was stunning, I saw someone comment on instagram that the look was perfect except for the shawl like style in front but that is what i love about the look, it gives it that touch of elegance without it, it’s just another sweetheart dress.
Rita Dominic came to slay that’s for sure, the colour on her skin was gorgeous, what i love about the dress was when she walked on stage to present you can spot a peak of the thigh high slits at the back before the Cape covers it as the guru of fashion Tim Gunn said choose a point and stick to it which she did with low scoop neck.
Nse Ikpe Etim is one of my favourite Nigerian actress i watch almost ever movie she is in because of how talented an actress she is. I love the colour on her and the embellished top and skirt looks quite elegant, stylish and comfortable my kind of style.
Diana Opotipr is wearing a gown by iconicvanity, I can see the Ankara fusion in it, I have been following this lady for sometime now on instagram, she is a fashion consultant and is currently doing a series called 100 days of fashion on her instagram account where she wears African designers.
Eku Edewor our African Giuliana
Rancic, love the dark colour and off shoulder look both are trends i love as seen on my last post. Eku is a fashion risk taker as evident with her looks on 53 Extra.
Omoni Oboli wore April by kunbi black and white is a classic look it’s hard to go wrong with this look, the lace gives it a feminine edge that stops it from looking too bridesy.
What do you think of these various looks anyone you will rock..
One of the new trend everywhere is the cold and off shoulder look which I got really into last year when it began to appear on the runway and it’s now in full bloom.
To be honest i never really liked it mainly because i always thought how do you pull it off without a bra then i discovered strapless bras but i still wasn’t sold on it, we Africans mainly Nigerians are fully blessed upfront and trust me only a sturdy bra to pack those babies is the the only language i understand. Anyways it grew on me and i love the little cuts on some designs it gives it that edgy sexiness which is my favorite.
Here are a few looks i love and will definitely rock them given the chance.
What are your thoughts on this trend love it or hate it..
The new spring couture 2016 season just ended in Paris and the first designer to show case is Donatella Versace and she wasn’t one to disappoint her clientele.
There was the signature cutouts, thigh high slits, minis and much more. One of the most interesting details is the use of knots in various intricate details in the pieces which gives it that Versace edge the brand is well known for.
Personally the collection is not my kind of style but i can’t ignore the time and creativity that goes into making the collection and i also love the colours bravo..
Wow it’s been ages since last i posted on the blog, i have been so busy with school and still am it’s really time consuming but I’m glad i will be rounding up soon.
Anyways back to my post the ABUJA FASHION WEEK took place last Sunday and i happened to be one of the participating designers yayy!! From the start i knew i wanted to use our fabulous Ankara fabrics so for my moodboard which i named AFRO CHIC i decided to use dark colors with deep shades plus i have been obsessing over the 70s especially the wide leg trend the freedom that comes with it.. Heaven.
Prints, 70s vibe, Colours, Modern Chic with a hint of fluidity that’s what my board represents.
Ps. AFRO CHIC POST COMING SOON..
